Kinja'd!!!

Got all the wires, hoses and doodads hooked up, and it came back to life, with lots of smoke and noises.

Unfortunately the ground tab broke off. The whole battery tray and the crossmember in front of the batter are heavily corroded. Will need attention soon.

Next going to put this new front muffler in. The one in the car was cracked, and I managed to mangle it worse when putting the engine back in. Way too leaky and loud to stand, but luckily I already had this new front muffled I bought last year.

Up on the ramps. Posting while I let the pipes cool down. Brakes still need to be bled properly too, but should be on the road again tomorrow.

Awesome!

Is that how the coil is supposed to mount from the factory?

Yes. Although originally it would have had a big fat Lucas coil.

Only reason I ask is because that’s the way that MSD and others have said not to do it with oil filled stuff.

No worries, I was just curious.

I wonder why. Air-cooled VWs mount them upside down too.
